This is an in-office position for hire at Inspired Flight’s HQ in San Luis Obispo, CA.
Job Description:
This role is at the core of the manufacturing team at Inspired Flight and will be part of a rapidly growing company in the growing UAV industry! The manufacturing engineer will be responsible for identifying and driving areas of improvement in engineering and production, maintaining high levels of manufacturing and product quality, designing new products and processes, as well as ensuring cost-efficiency and conformance with regulatory requirements.
The manufacturing engineer will need to create scalable, repeatable processes and systems to achieve the company goals and objectives. Inspired Flight is seeking a creative, open-minded, analytical engineer to fill this position.
A technical background is essential for this role, which requires BOM management, data analytics for process improvement, jig and fixture design and implementation, engineering change orders, and systematic improvements within QC/QA. Electronics (or related) manufacturing and assembly experience is required as this directly pertains to the cutting-edge technology we are developing and producing. This position will serve as the bridge between engineering and production departments. Effective communication, detail orientation, and systematic problem solving will be necessary for this role.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement, and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency
- Create and improve final assembly manufacturing and testing processes related to mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic, wire harness assembly, etc.
- Develop clear and concise work instructions for production processes
- Evaluate quality control processes and make recommendations for improvements in quality control
- Utilize six sigma and lean manufacturing tools that will lead to reduced downtime, increased production, and build a culture of continuous improvement.
- Establish and maintain data collection and performance measurements to track performance in key areas.
- Investigate production issues and recommend and implement corrective action.
- Design and produce manufacturing tooling and bench testing quality control equipment
- Act as the liaison between engineering and production through effective communication and organization

Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or related engineering (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; or at least four years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in electronics (or related field) manufacturing assembly is required for this position.
