DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Electrical Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for the electrical and firmware projects of Inspired Flight Technologies. Projects include design, prototyping, production, and testing of commercial-grade UAV electrical systems. Communicate with mechanical engineering and production teams to ensure completion of product goals. Take responsibility for system design, integration, and testing of an unmanned aircraft platform including software configuration, wiring, and flight testing. Integrate cutting edge UAV technologies, including RTK positioning, vehicle hardware telemetry, and long-range data links, into Inspired Flight’s offerings.

JOB SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • PCB schematic design and layout in Altium or similar software
  • Design of robust, EMI resilient analog and digital circuits
  • Evaluation of electronic designs using simulation and prototyping
  • Testing, troubleshooting and debugging of PCBs and electrical assemblies
  • PCB assembly including soldering and rework of SMT leadless components
  • Experience with electronics equipment including power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, etc.
  • Write firmware in C and Assembly for reliable control and operation of UAV power systems
  • Proficiency in bare metal embedded systems including knowledge of bootloaders, debuggers, toolchains and microcontroller circuit design
  • Understanding and implementation of embedded communication protocols including PWM, I2C, SPI, SMBus and CAN
  • 5 years of relevant experience

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of BLDC motor operating principles and control methods such as field oriented control (FOC)
  • Configuration and use of open source flight stacks such as Ardupilot and PX4
  • Familiarity with RF design principles
  • Has digital signal processor implementation experience
  • Tuning of flight control algorithms including PIDs and sensor filters
  • Kalman Filters
  • UAV Pilot experience and/or an FAA Part 107 License
